Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader (base game)
Prologue
Point of no return: The Prologue boss fight is the only one-shot item here. If the Chaos Spawn eats a cultist, reload a save from before the fight. The fight starts a short scene chain that ends the Prologue, so the save before it is the last chance.
- Don't Touch This (Reliable). The last fight of the Prologue, on the ship's bridge: a Chaos Spawn with a pack of heretic cultists. The Spawn's Devour move eats an ally and heals it, so cut down every cultist first and only then turn on the Spawn. Daring difficulty or higher. Watch out: If one cultist gets devoured, reload; there is no way to recover the achievement in that save.
- Conspiracy (Reliable). Awarded on its own when the Prologue ends, right after the Spawn fight and the scenes that make you the Rogue Trader. Nothing to prepare.
- Heretical run: first sword shard (optional prep) (Check in game). Only for a Heretical run (see Knee-Deep in Chaos and the Uralon steps). Pick up the first fragment of the blade in the Prologue, near Theodora's body. The quest does not strictly need it.
Chapter 1 – Rykad Minoris
Point of no return: The planet with the Aurora fight pushes the story into Chapter 2 once you finish it, and Chapter 1 locations stop being reachable afterwards. Treat the Aurora fight as the exit.
- Cleaning Out the Tzeentch (Reliable). Rykad Minoris, off the Upperway. Clear the heretics in the warehouse area, find the way down into the sewers, and cross the big sewer space to its far corner, where a wounded man lies. Talk to him (Lore [Warp] check) to spawn a Daemon of Tzeentch, then kill it. Watch out: Chapter 1 locations close once the chapter ends, so do it before the Aurora fight.
- Aviation Saviour (Reliable). The final battle of Chapter 1, at the shuttles, against Aurora, a Chaos Space Marine. About two rounds in he starts destroying shuttles, so kill or lock him down before then. His early area damage is heavy: spread the party out, use debuffs and control grenades, and mind the weak squads and the hard-to-reach sniper. Daring difficulty or higher. Watch out: Save before the boss: reload if any shuttle goes down.
- Stolen Star (Reliable). Comes with the end of Chapter 1, after Aurora is dealt with and the story moves on to Footfall. No action needed.
- Recruit Cassia (quest Secrets of the Navis Nobilite) (Reliable). Cassia joins you through the Chapter 1 quest Secrets of the Navis Nobilite. Without her you cannot chart new warp routes, and Light of the Astronomican needs that. She is also a romance option (male Rogue Trader). Watch out: Do this before the Rykad Minoris arc ends.
- Heretical run: second sword shard (Reliable). Only for a Heretical run. After beating Aurora, pass the Lore [Xenos] check and choose the Heretical line that quietly keeps the second blade fragment; this starts the Uralon thread.
Chapter 2 – Footfall, the colonies and Dargonus
Point of no return: Chapter 2 ends with the Dargonus coronation. The traders on Footfall are not available during Chapter 3 and part of Footfall is cordoned off afterwards, so finish Footfall and colony business first. Blades in the Void on Dargonus is the quest that wraps the chapter up.
- Rookie Skipper (Reliable). Win your first fight between voidships. It comes early in Chapter 2 and happens on its own; no preparation.
- Jungle Heat (Reliable). Finish the main story of the colony Janus (Telikos Epsilon system). Automatic once the Janus chain ends.
- Iron Judgement (Reliable). Finish the main story of Kiava Gamma. Automatic once its chain ends.
- No Place Like Home (Reliable). Finish the main story of Dargonus, your home world. Automatic once its chain ends and the coronation follows.
- Trade Empire (Reliable). Awarded when Chapter 2 ends, after the coronation on Dargonus. No action needed.
- This Is a Job for the Lord Captain! (Reliable). Hidden. At the pirate's funeral in the Footfall underworld (lower-left corner of the map), arrive incognito and say you are Fidelio when asked. Disarm the trap in the corridor left of the Book of Remembrance, examine the door, follow the clerk into the furnace, destroy the floor and escape through the old tunnels. When the game asks who wades through the sewage, pick the Rogue Trader. Watch out: Save before the funeral. Arriving openly or declining the Fidelio claim skips the chain.
- Burning Inheritance (Reliable). Hidden. At the same funeral, give the inheritance to the girl Adelia (near the chaplain, behind the crate of sheets). That choice needs the Iconoclast Follower line (15 Iconoclast points). If you already played Fidelio, return to the funeral afterwards and pick the not-in-a-killing-mood response. Watch out: Avoid the watch-your-enemies-die branch; it turns into a fight and the inheritance stops being Adelia's.
- Imperial Route (Check in game). Hidden and run-ending. Once the star map is open (right after Footfall), plot the route named To the Imperium from the Furibundus system and keep pushing through the book-style event, through the Hermitage and the Witch-Cursed World steps, until the last choice has you and the crew die. The game ends and the achievement pops. Watch out: Do not load this save for your real run; the game ends at the last step.
- Enraged Dragon (Reliable). Hidden. On Grantis (Platinum Stellos system), in the governor's camp, talk to Marazhai and pass three hidden Coercion lines in a row: mock that the beast can speak our language, needle him about being beaten at his own game, and pretend you dozed off and ask him to start again. He attacks, then flees; the achievement follows. Watch out: Save before the talk. Failing any check ends the chain.
- The Not-So-Bottomless Pit (Check in game). Hidden. In the Speculo system, on the Jungle World, walk to the end of the bridge to the pit. First pass three Awareness checks on markings: overwritten scribbles on a wall, a short half-wall in the grass by the shuttle, and a large wall about touching the darkness. Then take the line about dominating the entity and pass the Willpower check. Watch out: Save first. A wrong line can lock the achievement for the save.
- Thorough Investigation (Reliable). Hidden. At the Cradle of Khepri ice planet, in the Distress Signal Zone, destroy the transmitter (Iconoclast line, Demolition) and pass the Awareness check on its wreck. Cross the small bridge behind the turrets, stand against the flat ice wall and use the Demolition prompt to blast into the bunker. Watch out: You may need a reload to make the prompt appear.
- Thank You for Waiting (Reliable). Hidden. Part of Jae's quest Mercatum Tabula Officiale on Dargonus. Get Jae's permit through the Administratum, collect the two seals (Janus, and a worn seal for Dargonus), then take your place in the queue. When offered ways to hurry, pick consider everything again, then keep choosing Wait patiently until it is your turn. No Coercion shortcut. Watch out: Do not let Chapter 2 end before this quest is finished.
- Light of the Astronomican (Reliable). After you leave Footfall the star map opens. Open it and spend Navigator's Insight to chart a new route from one system to another. Cassia must already be recruited. Watch out: Without Cassia this cannot be done.
- Adventurous Archaeologist (Reliable). Latotian's Passage system, the ruins on the dead planet. Uncover the star symbol by the rubble and copy it with the pillars; take the Ancient Force Sword from the chest in the statue's mouth; place the hidden chest's contents in the empty jaws; copy the second pattern and loot the chest; win the fight.
- The Dynasty Restored (Check in game). Reclaim the five colonies of your dynasty: Foulstone, Janus (Telikos Epsilon), Kiava Gamma, Dargonus and Vheabos VI (Mortus Acies system, to the north). Do Vheabos VI after Dargonus.
- Cache hand-in (Possessed Ship, Chapter 2 part) (Reliable). For The Possessed Ship: hand the three caches to the cogitator on the bridge, help Pasqal with the ritual, do not kill or purge the machine spirit Nomos, be kind to him and talk to him whenever you can. Dargonus and Kiava Gamma each hide a cache. Watch out: Be gentle with Nomos here; hostility closes the achievement.
- Dargonus cache (Possessed Ship) (Unconfirmed). In your private quarters on Dargonus: in the bedroom use the book to open the vault, then sit on the bench at the far end and enter the three-part combination (wine for Flame of Purity, book for Litanies of the Motive Force, music for Symphony of Honour and Duty Part 2).
- Kiava Gamma cache (Possessed Ship) (Unconfirmed). On Kiava Gamma, shortly before the XCM boss: find the wagon and remove its brake, take the gear, enter the side room with the cogitator, place the gear in the wall mechanism; a passage opens to a second, trapped cogitator holding the data.
- Hand scan reports to the Explorators (Chapter 2) (Reliable). Give the Explorators on Footfall your planet scans in Chapter 2. The option greys out above a cap (about 110 scans at once), so hand them in often. Needed for Greatest Exploration.
Chapter 3 – Commorragh
Point of no return: You cannot return to Chapters 1 and 2 once Chapter 3 starts, although some locations reopen in Chapter 4. The first two achievements here must be handled right at the start of the chapter.
- Returning the Boots (Reliable). Hidden. As Chapter 3 opens you wake in the corpse dump with no gear. An Ugly Beggar among the beggars, at the bottom of the starting map or near the Mangled Lift, wears the boots you had on when captured. Either pass the Agility check to make him give the boots back, or kill him and take them; getting the boots back pops the achievement.
- Fully Prepared (Check in game). In the same corpse dump, use Stimms on yourself until every removable debuff is gone before you talk to Malice at the Pit. Search the spots (Awareness checks) and kill the beggars who carry stimms to collect enough. The achievement fires when the last removable debuff clears. Watch out: Do it before the Malice conversation; it cannot be repeated.
- Those Who Are About to Die Salute You (Reliable). The first arena fight in Commorragh: the Khymerae against the gladiators beside you. Make no speeches and hold your party back until the Khymerae have killed every gladiator.
- Whodunit? (Check in game). Argenta must be in your party. Re-recruit her from the Commissar on the right side of the Mangled Sector, then listen to her confession about Theodora's death when she stops you on the way to the arena. Watch out: Do not skip re-recruiting Argenta.
- Sweet Perdition (Check in game). Hidden. After the second arena fight, near Tervantias and the Anatomical Opera entrance, a book-style ambush event runs. Pass every skill check you pick, plus the automatic Willpower and Carouse checks, in one go, using only the Rogue Trader's stats. The reward is the weapon Sweet Perdition. Watch out: Do not summon companions in this event.
- Commorragh Survivors (Reliable). Awarded at the end of Chapter 3 as the story leaves Commorragh. No action needed.
Chapter 4 – Expanse and Inquisition
Point of no return: The Porta Septentum warp gate in Chapter 4 is a hard point of no return. After it, only the story continues: no quests, no colonies, no merchants. A system message warns you before you go through.
- Expanse Calamity (Reliable). Awarded when the Chapter 4 story ends and you go through the Porta Septentum gate. No action needed beyond the clean-up above.
- Invisible Bureaucracy (Reliable). Hidden. Jae's quest Rat Hunting in the Footfall sewers (down the stairs by the converted ship). Choose the quiet option and never be spotted: cross the makeshift bridge (Athletics), open every valve (five in the main tunnel area plus one in the small bedroom), disarm traps, avoid the short-sighted patrol, wake the servitor near the boss room (Tech-Use) and gas the room. Watch out: Hard-save first; being caught means a fight and a lost achievement.
- Frog Trader (Reliable). Hidden. Take the rumour Rare Find, fly to the Cradle of Khepri system and land on the Rocky World. In the Smuggler Hideout pick up the Gold Xeno-Idol, a small metal frog figure. Chapter 4 only; it is not there earlier.
- Knee-Deep in Chaos (Check in game). Hidden, Heretical run only; a long chain. Keep both sword shards, offer the Warrant to Uralon near the end of Chapter 2, reach the Heretical altar rank, and place the shards on the hidden altar in your bedroom. In Chapter 4 Calcazar sends you to Eufrates II (Emperor's Palm system): do not repent to him. In the Machine Cathedral dungeon speak the forbidden name Sameth, then choose the line about spilling the blood of the weaklings (four Space Wolves) and win the fight. Watch out: Heretical companions leave you. Do not repent to Calcazar.
- The Possessed Ship (Reliable). Hidden. Starts in Chapter 2 and pays off here. Keep Nomos alive and talk to him often. When a tech-priest stows away on your ship, do not kill him; speak with him, let him work with Nomos, and finish Nomos' quest about the place where he was built. The achievement fires after the last Nomos dialogue. Watch out: Be kind to Nomos throughout.
- Work of the Holy Ordos (Reliable). At the very start of Chapter 4, with Idira, Yrliet and Marazhai recruited and Heinrix in the party, hand all three over in a single conversation, leave the dialogue, then reload. Achievement text adds that you may also execute them yourself. Watch out: This stays on the one save only; reload right after the achievement pops.
- Amends to the Dead (Reliable). On the ice world Mundus Nullius, inside the Abandoned Palace, kill the boss noble and loot the Halo Device. Heinrix smashes it (Marazhai too, and possibly Yrliet). Equip it as the Rogue Trader in the Lord Captain's chambers. Chapter 4 only; it cannot be removed afterwards. Watch out: Once equipped it cannot be unequipped.
- Uncover the Ice (Check in game). On the ice world of the Hundred Dreams Crossroads system, scan with a strong enough Auspex to be offered the contract Melting the Ice, then complete it. A top-grade Auspex on the flagship opens the contract (costs 1 Flogiston, 5 Promethium, 3 Chemicals). The achievement fires when the contract is done.
- Preserve the Architecture (Check in game). Eufrates II, the Machine Cathedral: the Incongruous Defiler is strengthened by four plasma batteries. Kill it without destroying any battery. Strip its armour with debuffs and keep area and burst attacks away from the batteries. Watch out: Keep every blast away from the batteries.
- Unexpected Company (Check in game). Recruit one of the secret companions before Chapter 5 starts: Calligos Winterscale (good relations at the coronation, then Quetza Temer), Incendia Chorda (Footfall quest), or Uralon (Heretical run). All join at the very end of Chapter 4. Watch out: Pick the route before the gate.
- Highrise (Reliable). Complete one colony project of the highest tier on any colony. Tier IV and V projects open in Chapter 4, so start them early; projects take time.
- The Dynasty Prospers (Reliable). Complete the highest-tier project on each of your five colonies. Tier I, III and V are pick-one-of-three, some projects need another colony's project first, and slots are limited, so plan the order.
- Hand scan reports to the Explorators (Chapter 4) (Reliable). Before leaving the Expanse, give the Explorators on Footfall every new scan; the option greys out above the cap (about 70 scans at once in Chapter 4).
- Finish everything before the Porta Septentum gate (Reliable). Complete quests, colony projects, shopping and ship upgrades before Porta Septentum. After the gate, only the story continues: no quests, colonies or merchants. Watch out: The gate is a point of no return.
Chapter 5 – The final stretch
Point of no return: There is no way back to earlier chapters. Pick the ending route you want before the final landing; one ending per save.
- Polyglot (Reliable). In the first Chapter 5 system, Debris of Battiada, land on the planet Signal from the Planet (Tech-Use gated). Pass two Lore [Xenos] checks and one Tech-Use check, then finish the central cogitator sequence.
- Purge the Unclean (Check in game). Destroy at least one ship of every enemy fleet type: pirates, Chaos, Asuryani, Drukhari and Necrons. The Necron ships are in Chapter 5. The Chaos ones sit at Hundred Dreams Crossroads. Drukhari ships appear in Chapter 2 (several systems) and at Gartrafal's Calamity in Chapter 4. Aeldari ships are at Trinnitos, Laptidus Mortus and Emperor's Palm.
- How Did It All End? (Reliable). The Nomos ending (official text: you raised your own abomination). Accept Nomos into the stowaway tech-priest's body before the final landing, keep Nomos alive in the C'tan fight, then pick the Face Nomos, act now line.
- Oath to the Stars (Reliable). Hidden. The Traitor ending: pick Destroy the Yoke and kneel before the ancient deity at the end.
- Grand Finale (Reliable). Awarded for finishing the game, so any ending works; the standard route picks the Deliver the final blow line. The Calcazar ending (join Calcazar, then Bridle it) is a separate route.
Counters and exploration (whole game)
Point of no return: None of these are tied to one chapter, but several are easier early: Pentakill needs the Prologue cultists, Silver-Tongued Diplomat and Greatest Exploration lose chances after Chapter 4.
- Fear Not Obliteration (Reliable). Kill an enemy with a single attack dealing 100 damage. A sniper with the Assassin specialisation and the Eye of Hecaton, plus the Sharpshooter talents, makes this routine.
- Doom Trader (Reliable). Land 500 critical hits with your party members. It counts over the whole playthrough; build the party for crits.
- Too Fast to Die (Reliable). Dodge 500 enemy attacks with your party. A high Agility companion helps; Argenta, Yrliet and Marazhai are named.
- Pentakill (Reliable). Kill five enemies with one attack. The Prologue cultists near the elevator in Theodora's chambers are a good crowd; area abilities such as Cassia's stare or Idira's Lightning Arc do it.
- Perfect Timing (Reliable). Restart your flagship's shields and take no hull damage while doing so. Stay out of enemy range while the shield reboots.
- Void Wolf (Check in game). Win ten void combats. Chapter 2 has plenty.
- Precise Defence (Check in game). Destroy 30 torpedoes. Timeouts and the DLC fighter squadrons do not count; flak mode helps. Two Infigel-class raiders at Hundred Dreams Crossroads give a good farm, or reload and repeat a fight. The counter is per playthrough, and tracking is unreliable.
- Silver-Tongued Diplomat (Check in game). Win seven fights through dialogue instead of combat. Candidates: the Rykad anti-aircraft battery rebels, the old man and his family, the prison-colony prisoners, the Janus Aeldari alliance, the Gutted Voidship Hann Cassini near Pulvis Platinum, the Tenebris Aquae voidship fight, Quetza Temer and Cassia's personal quest.
- The Rise (Reliable). Reach a second-tier archetype (level 16). A developer update fixed a Blade Dancer problem.
- Exemplar (Reliable). Reach a third-tier archetype (level 36 with any Tier II).
- Master of Trade (Check in game). Complete 20 contracts. The totals vary: 17 including Void Beacons (which may not count), or 21 in total. Some contracts are exclusive (Lugnalia's Crusade versus Tychon's Diplomacy), Melting the Ice counts, and Sanctions Against the Gapraks appears at the coronation as the last option.
- A Spark (Check in game). Start a romance. Base-game options: Cassia (male Rogue Trader), Heinrix (female Rogue Trader), Jae, Marazhai, Yrliet. You can pursue several until the Lord Inquisitor and Lord Captain quest in Chapter 4.
- A Flame (Check in game). Find your true love: finish a romance through to its ending. A Jae route works. The achievement may be bugged.
- No Stone Unturned (Check in game). Visit all 35 systems of the Koronus Expanse. Companion-quest systems may not count.
- Curiosity Is Not a Vice (Check in game). Visit half of the optional locations.
- Don't Stop the Exploration (Check in game). Visit all optional locations.
- Greatest Exploration (Check in game). Scan every available world. Hand in the scans to the Explorators often, since each report is capped (about 110 in Chapter 2, about 70 in Chapter 4). The achievement is reported flag-dependent and may only appear with the last Chapter 5 scan.
Difficulty and conviction (whole run)
Point of no return: Pick your conviction branch early. Once one branch is committed, the other two stop at rank 2. So the three Votary achievements need three runs.
- Overcome and Overpower (Reliable). Finish the game on Daring difficulty or higher. Custom settings do not count; moving any slider flips the game to Custom.
- The Emperor's Servant (Reliable). Finish a run on Daring or higher as a Dogmatic Votary. Take the Dogmatic lines whenever they are offered until you reach rank 3 (200 points). Old text calls this achievement The Emperor's Hand.
- Merciful Soul (Reliable). Finish a run on Daring or higher as an Iconoclast Votary: pick the Iconoclast line in every conversation that offers one, reaching rank 3 (200 points) before the end. It is awarded when the game is completed.
- Chaos Incarnate (Reliable). Same job for the Heretical conviction, on a separate save: Heretical lines only, up to rank 3 (200 points), then complete the game on Daring or higher. Knee-Deep in Chaos needs the same path, so one run can aim for both.
- Deepest Conviction (Check in game). Finish the game with any conviction at Zealot rank (rank 5, 500 points) on Daring or higher. Zealot was near-impossible in 2023-24; a developer update raised the conviction points in Acts III-IV and said the award should now work in all cases. In one 2024 case, over 500 points gave no pop; reloading the last save fixed it.
